The Basics of Polo:<\/strong><\/p>\n

How does the game work? So here’s the deal: players mount up on horses, traditionally four per team, and by using a mallet they move a small white ball down the field until a team scores. This occurs for four periods of play, each seven minutes long. The highest scoring team wins!<\/p>\n

Polo Terminology:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sound like a pro in front of your friends while watching the matches on November 2nd with such polo jargon as:<\/p>\n

Chukker<\/em><\/strong> – one of the periods of play. There are four in a polo match.<\/p>\n

Mount<\/em><\/strong> – a polo pony.<\/p>\n

First Drop<\/em><\/strong> – the ball pitch onto the field that starts the play of the game.<\/p>\n

Handicap<\/em><\/strong> – the skill level of a polo player or team.<\/p>\n

Divot<\/em><\/strong> – the turf holes that have been kicked up by the horses.<\/p>\n

Sideboard<\/em><\/strong> – vertical boards lining the field that create the space of play.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Sideline Parking<\/em><\/strong>– much like tailgating, but directly on the field. Guests will drive into the event and line the field of play and enjoy their own experience of lawn chairs, pop up tents, etc. Food is permitted and a convenient cash bar is available at center-field.<\/p>\n
