THE\u00a0GAME:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong>Basics of<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong>Polo:<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Players mount horses, traditionally four per team, but in our case three. By using a mallet they move a small white ball down the field until a team scores. This occurs for four periods of play, each seven minutes long. The highest scoring team wins. There’s often more scoring than hockey or soccer.\u00a0 \"\"<\/p>\n

Polo<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong>Terminology:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sound like a pro in front of your friends while watching\u00a0the\u00a0matches on October 23rd with such\u00a0polo\u00a0jargon as:<\/p>\n

Chukker<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0– one of\u00a0the\u00a0periods of play.\u00a0There are four in a\u00a0polo\u00a0match.<\/p>\n

Mount<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>– a\u00a0polo\u00a0pony.<\/p>\n

First Drop<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0–\u00a0the\u00a0ball pitch onto\u00a0the\u00a0field that starts\u00a0the\u00a0play of\u00a0the\u00a0game.<\/p>\n

Handicap<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0–\u00a0the\u00a0skill level of a\u00a0polo\u00a0player or team.<\/p>\n

Divot<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>–\u00a0the\u00a0turf holes that have been kicked up by\u00a0the\u00a0horses.<\/p>\n

Sideboard<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0– vertical boards lining\u00a0the\u00a0field that create\u00a0the\u00a0space of play<\/p>\n
